Changing tapware standards
There is a movement across many developed countries to making tapware safer for drinking.
By September 2025 in New Zealand and May 2026 in Australia, all newly installed tapware is not to exceed 0.25% weighted average lead content (Source: Australian Building Codes Board and New Zealand Building Code).
The change is a response to worldwide research on the effects of deterioration of copper alloys in brass plumbing products. Findings show that lead is being leached from this deterioration and finding its way into drinking water.
No safe level of lead
The new regulations stipulates a maximum of 0.25% of lead content allowable, which allows for low lead brass to be used.
Many brands are moving towards using low lead brass, however XpressFit mixers is in agreement with the World Heath Organisation (WHO) which advises that there is no safe level of lead in drinking water.
Lead free from the very beginning
While all other brands have been gearing up for this change in material requirements, XpressFit mixers were always manufactured from lead free stainless steel.
XpressFit mixers were designed to be ahead of its time and leading the way in tapware innovation.
Stainless steel is a lead free, germ resistant and a renewable material. This is only one of the many features of XpressFit tapware.
