What are the new standards in tapware ?
There is a movement across many developed countries to making tapware safer for drinking.
By September 2025 in New Zealand and May 2026 in Australia, all newly installed tapware is not to exceed 0.25% weighted average lead content (Source: Australian Building Codes Board and New Zealand Building Code).
The change is a response to worldwide research on the effects of deterioration of copper alloys in brass plumbing products.
Findings show that lead is being leached from this deterioration and finding its way into drinking water.

The new regulations stipulates a maximum of 0.25% of lead content allowable, which allows for low lead brass to be used.
